Something that Zach and I have noticed among posters on the Huffington Post is the manipulation of language to make a political point. This manipulation has resulted in the literal changing of the meaning of words. It's hard to believe, but for each definition I'll try to include a link to a post that advocates for the new definition. So now, I give you....the Anti-Zionist Dictionary! I'll save the link in my sidebar and this post should be updated as more words get their meanings change on the HP. The examples I have included are absurd, designed to illustrate how ridiculous these definitions are.
apartheid (n.) - any state, object, or policy that separates people.
Ex: The U.S. policy of requiring a citizenship test before a person can become a citizen of the U.S. is an example of apartheid
democracy (n.) - a state that commits zero (0) human rights violations. If a state commits a human rights violation, it is no longer a democracy.
Ex: The United States is not a democracy because it violates Iraqi human rights.
precondition (n.) - in a negotiation, an issue that one side is unwilling to negotiate on.
Ex: The Palestinian right of return is a precondition to negotiations.
self-defense (n.) - justified violence committed in response to a wrongful act, regardless of proportionality or who the target is.
Ex: If a burglar breaks into your house and steals your TV, you are allowed to kill his family under the right of self-defense.
anti-Semitism (n.) - 1. hatred for all Semitic people, including Jews and Arabs. 2. a meaningless term always used by Israelis to stifle all criticism of Israel.
Ex: Arabs cannot be anti-Semitic, because they are Semites! [note: this argument is actually used]
terrorism (n.) - a meaningless term used by Israelis to delegitimize Palestinian violence.
Ex: Rockets targeting schoolchildren isn't terrorism! You're just calling it that so the world won't help the Palestinians fight for their rights!
murder (v.) - an Israeli taking the life of a Palestinian.
Ex: Mossad killing that Hamas member was murder.
criticism (n.) - any comment that is negative and directed toward Israel and Jews, including existential attacks and racism.
Ex: Saying that "Israel is a nation of bloodsuckers" isn't anti-Semitism, it's just criticism!
how about a discussion of how israel-haters twist the meaning of several concepts from international law, such as proportionality and collective punishment
