Anti-Semitism vs. Islamophobia Followup

Last week we highlighted MJ Rosenberg's blog post on anti-Semitism vs. Islamophobia, in which Rosenberg whined that Islamophobia is not only a huge problem in America, but it's the fault of the Jews, oops I mean the pro-Israel lobby. That second part comes courtesy of Max Blumenthal, a virulent anti-Zionist that Rosenberg just happens to support because he's anti-occupation as well.  Rosenberg also claimed statistics are misleading, most likely because they prove him wrong.

Meanwhile, on Planet Earth, we've got some actual facts to consider, courtesy of Elder of Ziyon.

Anti-Islam hate crimes in New York State increased by a whopping 37.5% in 2009 compared to 2008, according to a new hate crimes report released by New York State.

This was more than double the increase of anti-Semitic crimes, which went up by only 15%.

Of course, one needs a little context.

The number of anti-Muslim hate crimes increased from 8 to 11.

The number of anti-Semitic hate crimes increased from 219 to 251.

So, in the state that witnessed the death of nearly 3000 people at the hand of Muslim terrorists, there are nearly 23 times as many crimes against Jews compared to Muslims. 

 His source? The NY Post quoting the state Division of Criminal Justice.

So you can make your choice about what to believe. You can believe MJ Rosenberg, who will tell you that attacks on Jews are no big deal and the Jews are just being "too sensitive". Or you can believe New York's criminal justice system, who will tell you that there were over 200 incidents of anti-Jewish hate crimes in New York State alone in 2009. I've made mine.
