Everybody remembers the flotilla "incident" of last year, in which terror sympathizers attempted to run Israel's blockade of Gaza and when the IDF came to stop them, attacked the soldiers with knives and pipes. Well, for some reason Israel offered to compensate Turkey for those killed during the fighting and the Huffington Post covered the news.
In a completely unsurprising move, the HPers rejected Israel's attempts to mend fences outright. In doing so, they displayed the "honor-shame" dynamic so common in Palestinian culture. Here are a couple of examples:
These HPers see peace or a lessening of hostilities as "a loss of self respect" and "total submission." When even (allegedly) enlightened Europeans or Americans feel this way about a simple offer of compensation, what chance does Israel have of making real peace with the Palestinians and other more radical Arab nations?
