Article about Blood Libel, Let's Change the Subject

The blogger with the most Jewish name ever to write for the Huffington Post, Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, wrote an op ed about the alleged return of the medieval blood libel in Europe. It is not a very good or convincing article. Goldschmidt's one fact is an Austrian MP accused Halal and kosher meat of causing deaths of children from bacterial infections. This reminds him of the medieval blood libels in which Jews were accused of killing Christian children. Goldschmidt is concerned that the far right is returning to power in Europe and "Jews may no longer be their first target - the Muslim community tend to bear the brunt of their hatred - but make no mistake, they are not attacking Islam, they are attacking difference."

You can read the rest of the op ed and decide for yourself how convincing it is, but let's take a look at the reaction of the HPers. Articles about blood libels are boring, no one likes the idea of European Jews as victims. Hey, I've got a better idea! Let's talk about the Palestinians!

Phew, that was close! Jews were almost the victims of something! That's not allowed anymore!

But remember, Israel has nothing to do with Jews, that's why no criticism of Israel can ever be anti-Semitic.
