Huffington Post articles about the fighting in Syria have fallen into a sad, predictable pattern: yet another story of atrocities is reported, a list of casualties is named, or heartbreaking testimony is shared. Then the readership, who claim to care so very much about international law and human rights when it suits them, proceed to either dismiss the suffering of the Syrians, deny it, blame America and/or its allies, or all three at once. This latest Syria thread, reporting that the dead there number over 140,000, showcases this tendency very clearly. But at least it actually had a decent number of comments.
I'm glad to see that devotion to international law and human rights is just as solid as ever.
